2017 Balanced Literacy

As we enter the 2017-2018 academic year, Eastgate will enhance our Reading curriculum, by moving to Balanced Literacy.  This innovative and rigourous approach, will meet students where they are, by using data to drive instruction.  Students will be actively engaged in guided reading, active read alouds and small group instruction.  Students will explore and strenghten their reading skills while working at independent learning stations, through the use of technology and by working in small groups with their teacher.

Parent Involvement
Parents, guardians and members of the historic Eastgate community are warmly invited to participate and partner in our learning process. Opportunities for family involvement include: a variety of volunteer opportunities,Room Parents, Open House, Parent Academy Nights, Parent-Teacher Conferences, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten and Fifth Grade Promotion Ceremonies, Winter/Spring Concerts and community outreach programs. Parents are also encouraged and expected to provide academic support at home, when studying with their kids or when helping with homework.   Sending students to school with school supplies everyday, adherence to the dress code, assisting in classrooms, having updated contact information and assisting with field trips are also encouraged as a means of building relationships between the school and families.
